Classic|Romantic invites visitors to explore the meanings of two widely used words and reflect on the relationship between them. The works on display range from sixteenth-century woodcuts to late twentieth-century photography and twenty-first-century ceramics. Also included are prints by or after notable Romantics such as Blake, Fuseli, Goya and Turner. Most of them are focussed on the human, superhuman and not quite human figure. Together, they demonstrate shared interests in – as well as different approaches to – mythology and Greco-Roman antiquity.
The show has been curated by myself and fellow students on the undergraduate module ‘Curating an Exhibition’.
